Intuitive drawing

with

Faber-Castell Polychromos

Colored pencils

In the winter of 2018/19, I discovered a new world for myself, which I brought to life on A3 paper

with colored pencils in an intuitive and creative way,

with a lot of patience

and a focus

on what was emerging.

Starting with a fine vertical center line, I begin in the middle of the paper with simple lines, circles, and patterns, adding anything and everything above and below without knowing what the finished picture will look like

or what it's meant to represent.

I combine colors as they come to mind, usually grabbing the next colored pencil from a tin without looking for a specific color.

I put the colored pencils I've used on the table and reuse them later, depending on what I feel like.

The first picture I created using this method was the one in the middle, with lots of turquoise. ```

First, I drew the three traffic light-like circles and imagined the Empire State Building in New York on top, with an antenna.

Then, below them, I built a somewhat three-dimensional, truncated pyramid with three diamonds standing on their points, also in turquoise...

And so on, an underpass-like bridge emerged, resembling legs and a base.

And then the butterfly-like wings with rounded, trumpet-like tips.

Finally, the session ended with a halo of rays around the top of the tower, with rounded tips. Orange, yellow, violet etc.

I spent two evenings, 1.5 to 2 hours each, working on it with intense focus.

I sharpened the pencils repeatedly with a sharp sharpener to create clean edges, applying quite firm pressure to the paper.

Landscape format A3 In the first winter, a center line was always the starting point.

In the second winter, figure-like objects emerged; I called them crooked-legged creatures or high-legged creatures.

And in the third winter, I used a compass, and circular objects and hybrid forms were created.

I used more and more colors, which became my favorite combinations, though these also changed somewhat over time.

I didn't give the creatures and figures names, and it would be difficult for me to recreate a drawing from memory. ...

This activity grounded me, calmed me, and my thoughts were focused on the present moment.

The colors have a very meditative effect. I was very much in touch with myself and didn't let myself be distracted, just some soft music playing in the background.

I painted about two pictures a week, which means four sessions, either in the afternoon or evening.

Most of the time, I was amazed the next day when I looked at the color combinations and a special power within the paintings.

All the paintings represent a journey to my innermost self,

hidden color creatures that

I am allowed to get to know

and that have now manifested themselves in this,

my world here.

Timeless works, the kind you can create too.

Try it, you'll like it -

and you can say:

" I DID IT MY WAY"
